Juniors May Update

There has been lots happening for our Junior sailors in May! We have welcomed lots of new Junior sailors and their parents, it's been great to see the sailors progressing and the parents learning new skills too!

Successes: Congratulations to Franek, Hunter and William on achieving their Stage 1 and to all the other Juniors who got skills ticked off towards later Stages.

Junior Racing: With exam season for older sailors, there aren't any competitions in May so it's been good to see more Juniors racing at the club; well done to Hunter, William and Luke who have competed in their first races in preparation for Junior competitions in June.

Spinnaker Sessions: For those Juniors who have been sailing for longer, Harriet ran a spinnaker session over half term, it was a breezy and exciting day with the colourful spinnakers flying.

Pirate Day: With wind gusting in at 30+ it wasn't a day for pirates to go sailing but this didn't deter the large band of pirates who split into teams led by Pirate Lucy, Pirate Harry and Pirate Ava for a day of swashbuckling, plundering and walking the plank. With the Jolly Roger flying over the sailing club, the day started with the need to design and create sails and rigging to allow the Bin Bag Buccaneers to get their sea legs on the bucking Optimists (it's amazing how fast a full Optimist can get from 7 to the club house under the power of a bin bag). Boats were then abandoned on the beach so the Paddleboarding Pirates could have all hands on deck for the challenge of paddling from shore to F (extremely difficult in the windy conditions). After a rerun of Bin Bag Buccaneers it was time for Swashbuckling Sword Fights and of course to Walk the Plank before we lit the BBQ for some grub! Thank you to all the big pirates who came down to assist in making this day such a success.

NW Traveller: Elton will be hosting the NW Junior Traveller on Sat 7th June, we already have a number of Elton Juniors entered. 

North Youth and Junior Champs: On 21-22 June the Juniors are going to this event at Ullswater Yacht Club, there are over 170 sailors already entered and we have Juniors in Rookie, Regatta, ILCA, Topper and 29er fleets, good luck to all of them.
